The heart behind what we do
The Dance Loft is dedicated to bringing quality and affordable dance and fitness instruction to central and northern Stokes County. The Dance Loft will focus on the fitness benefits of dance and instilling a love of the art of dance in its students. We believe that the ability to dance is a gift from the Lord and our goal is to nurture this gift, cultivate joy, and build community and connection between our dancers.

Meet our team!

Joy Ackley (Founder)
About
Joy began dancing at age 4 and continued dancing through college. After a 23-year career as a flight attendant, she felt called back to her passion for dance. In 2010 she opened The Dance Loft creating a joyful space where young dancers can grow, express themselves, and discover their own love of the art.
After the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, Joy turned ownership of The Dance Loft over to her daughter, Malia. Joy is still very much involved in the behind-the-scenes tasks that make the studio possible and can often still be found working behind the front desk!

Malia Ackley (Owner & Instructor)
About
Malia began dancing at 4 years old and hasn’t missed a chance to dance since then. When her mother opened The Dance Loft in 2010, she found a deep love for dancing alongside her friends & family as well as dancing at a competitive level.
After watching her mother take leaps of faith in the dance industry & grow the business with the direction of the Lord, she was honored to take over ownership in 2024.
She still finds so much joy in sharing her love for dance with her students & watching them progress their skills year after year.

Kayla Foster (Instructor)

Kayla started dancing at two years old, continuing throughout grade school, college and into the professional world. She has continued to grow her love for dance through teaching, choreographing, and performing. She is the new Head Coach for the UNCG Spartan G’s Dance Team!
Kayla gained her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with K-12 Licensure from UNCG, while also serving on the UNCG Spartan G’s from 2017-2020. While on the Spartan G’s, Kayla served as Team Co-Captain from 2019-20, where she choreographed, taught and performed halftime and cadence routines.
She most recently performed jazz, pom and hip-hop styled dances and cadences for Venom Dance Team for the Greensboro Carolina Cobras arena football team’s large games and events. Throughout her career, Kayla has choreographed and taught at numerous studios, but is so happy to call The Dance Loft her new studio home!!

Miranda Tedder (Instructor)
About
Miranda began dancing at 3 years old, and her passion grew with every routine, ultimately making dance a huge part of her life for the next 19 years. She took recreational classes until the age of 7, learning and experimenting with all different styles of dance. After age 7, Miranda entered the competition world and danced at a competitive level until she graduated from high school. After graduating high school, Miranda furthered her dance career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill by joining Blank Canvas Dance Company.
Miranda loves how welcoming the dance community is and admires the transformations that take place within each student, both on and off the stage. Miranda believes that the studio is an environment where students can escape reality and express themselves with movement!
Miranda is so excited to be back at her childhood studio, continuing her passion for dance, and now taking on a new role as an instructor!
